Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide, with an estimated 1.8 million new cases diagnosed per year (World Health Organization). Breast cancer typically is staged (Stage 0-IV) based on the size of the tumor, whether or not the tumor has grown into surrounding breast tissue, whether or not the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes and whether or not the cancer has spread to other parts of the body beyond the breast.
